The short version: mote has no accounts, no cloud, and no analytics. The people you add, your check-ins, and everything else the app knows live on your phone and nowhere else. We couldn’t read your data if we wanted to. We don’t want to.

what the app stores

Everything you put into mote — the people in your circle, their relationship types and cadences, check-in history, streaks, birthdays, tone settings, and the name you give yourself at onboarding — is stored in local storage on your device. It is never uploaded, synced, or transmitted anywhere. There is no server. There are no accounts.

what we collect

Nothing. The app contains no analytics, no advertising, no tracking SDKs, and no crash reporters that phone home. We have no idea who you are, who Dave is, or how long you’ve been ghosting him.

network requests

The app makes no API calls. The one exception worth being honest about: on first launch the app may download its typefaces from Google Fonts, a standard font-delivery service. That request contains no personal data and the fonts are cached afterwards.

notifications

Nudges are scheduled locally on your device using the system notification service. No notification content ever leaves your phone — the heckling stays between you and the Mote.

this website

This site is a static page. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Our hosting provider may keep standard, short-lived server logs (IP address, request time) to keep the site running, as virtually all web hosts do.

app stores

If you install mote through the App Store or Google Play, Apple or Google may collect install and diagnostic data under their own privacy policies. That’s between you and them — we don’t receive it.

deleting your data

Settings → “Start fresh (clear everything)” wipes every person and check-in on the device. Uninstalling the app does the same. There is no copy anywhere else, so once it’s gone, it’s gone — the Mote keeps no grudges.

children

mote collects no personal information from anyone, children included. Since nothing is collected, nothing is shared, sold, or processed.

changes to this policy

If a future version of mote ever changes how data is handled (for example, an optional backup feature), we’ll update this policy and the app will make the change obvious before anything leaves your device.
